Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut NV

Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut NV

Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label is a beautifully mellow, seductive style. The nose is complex with creamy, biscuity aromas woven through apple, pear and citrus fruit. In the mouth it has lovely weight and smoothness, with enough acid balance to keep things fresh and lively, and a lingering yeasty aftertaste.  One of the best-known non-vintage Champagnes in the world, it is also one of consistently high quality.

With Loving Care
Famous Champagne house Veuve Clicquot puts a lot of effort into this Yellow Label non-vintage wine. Clicquot treats these multi-vintage blends with a level of care and attention that’s often lavished only on prestigious vintage Champagnes at other houses, even to the extent of keeping an extensive collection of past blends ageing in the cellars as a sort of living history of the marque. Occasionally they stage tastings of older non-vintage blends going back to the 1990s, opening a rare window on one of the most consistent wines in Champagne. Presided over by Veuve Clicquot’s chef de cave Dominique Demarville (above), the blending of Yellow Label takes precedent over the other superb wines in the range. What makes it so special? “Old reserve wines play an important part,” says DominiqueDemarville. “They are around a third of the blend, adding complexity, and we use over 50 per cent pinot noir, which gives power and structure to the wine.” In Demarville’s hands, it’s a formula that works beautifully.
