A pleasant 40-minute drive from Oneroa Village through the central part of the island will take you to Passage Rock – you’ll be rewarded with views of the sea, vines and a large playing area popular with kids. Restful and far from the madding crowds, Passage Rock offers a countrified feel with mangroves and wetlands.
Things To Know
If you can find a better wood-fired pizza anywhere we’d like to hear about it – locals have been known to phone ahead to ensure they don’t miss out. Passage Rock has garnered a number of awards – both locally and internationally – for its syrah, and of course syrah is a perfect match for pizza.
The Reserve Syrah is as good as syrah gets, while the superb viognier ice wine (available only in certain years) is one of the few ice wines made in New Zealand – it’s a great aperitif or dessert wine.
This is very much a family-friendly destination, with lots for kids to do and see – plan to spend a whole afternoon here.
