Setting
An oversized Nautilus shell sculpture greets you as you drive up to this cellar door, symbolising the perfect mathematical symmetry found in nature – that symmetry and balance are also trademarks of the Nautilus wines.Sample a selection of wines at the beautifully polished rimu wooden bar, or carry a glass outside to the front porch where you can enjoy the Marlborough sunshine.
Things To Know
Established in 1985, Nautilus Estate was one of the earlier foreign-owned companies to emerge in Marlborough. Owned by the Hill Smith family, who also own Australia’s Yalumba winery, Nautilus Estate was the first in the region to build a dedicated pinot noir winery. That was followed later by a dedicated white winery.
Our Pick
In the early days it was all about Nautilus’s methode traditionnelle, but today there are many other wonderful wines to recommend, particularly the pinot noir. While winemaker Clive Jones may say he is still looking to make the perfect pinot, the current offerings must come pretty close.
