Setting
Just a five-minute drive from Turangi, this vineyard and restaurant is also just a short walk from the Tongariro River, a world-famous fly-fishing spot. The picturesque restaurant is clad in river stones and timber – you can taste wines here or outside on the spacious shaded deck. It’s a relaxing place to linger, playing a game of giant chess or draughts in between wine tastings.
Things To Know
Pinot noir and pinot gris grapes were planted in the late 90s and grow on the stony flats of the old Tongariro river bed. The wines, including pinot noir, pinot gris and rosé, are made in Hawke’s Bay.
Our Pick
Try the 2009 pinot noir.
River Restaurant
Bistro-style favourites – from house-made pate to braised pork belly with parsnip puree – make the most of local ingredients. Local cheeses are served with preserves made from home-grown fruit, and the coffee’s from Taupo’s Volcanic Coffee roastery.
