Setting
Since the acquisition by Foley Family Wines in July 2014, the tasting room at Martinborough has had a makeover. Its high barrel-vaulted ceiling and pretty wisteria-framed veranda remain, but the cellar door has a new lease of life. There’s a new private tasting room for those wine-curious customers preferring a more personalised Setting. Venture outside to enjoy a glass in the new grassy outdoor area.
Things To Know
Martinborough Vineyard was founded in 1980 after a groundbreaking report identified Martinborough as an ideal place to plant Burgundian grapes. The winery set the pace, producing premium pinot noir through the early decades, and remains a leader. Paul Mason is the winemaker and he also makes an impressive second-tier range called Te Tera (try the pinot noir).
Our Picks
Marie Zelie is the flagship reserve pinot noir only produced in exceptional vintages, the Manu Riesling has a splash of sweetness and the chardonnay is superb.
Plus
Martinborough Vineyard will join Te Kairanga Vineyard in hosting the annual Toast Martinborough wine, food and music festival this year.
