Setting
You’ll find some of the finest merlot-based wines in the country here. An offbeat place, close to the Clevedon Scenic Reserve, Puriri Hills hums with all the right tunes. The beautifully tended home vineyard is now mature, producing wines of outstanding concentration with Bordeaux-like refinement and style. When you drive up to the winery/cellar door you’ll feel a strong sense that these vines truly belong here, among the farms and native bushes.
Things To Know
The wines here are grown, picked, made, bottled and aged on site so they truly are a reflection of their terroir. When Judy Fowler, owner-winemaker, is away the cellar door is not open, as she prefers to guide you through the wines personally. Check the website before heading out there.
Our Picks
The well-priced Estate red is impressive and attractive with gorgeous fruit richness, and all the elegance of a fine claret. The Reserve is exceptional – a top-notch Bordeaux.
