Setting
Country charm and modern style collide beautifully here. The unpretentious cellar door and smartly decorated restaurant sit right next to the home vineyard offering soothing views of their meticulously tended vines with mature trees surrounding the property. After eight vintages, Ake Ake Vineyard is in the middle of converting to organic practices and by 2016 the process should be complete.
Things to know
If you’re travelling by campervan, you can stay overnight at the car park for free. No facilities are available, but it’s a handy option if you are having dinner there and don’t want to drive afterwards.
Our picks
The first release of gewurztraminer in 2014 shows all the classic perfumed aromas with a succulent palate. The multi-award-winning chambourcin, known by the locals as “chambo”, is a wonderfully rich, toasty wine. And the unusual syrah-pinotage blend delivers plenty of friendly flavours.
