Setting
In the middle of the family vineyard off the Gibbston Back Rd, an old vineyard shed has been converted into Brennan Wines’ welcoming tasting room. The vineyards were planted by the Brennans in 1994 and the fruit sold to other producers, but in 2006 son Sean returned to set up a winery and launch the Brennan label.
Things To Know
The fruit comes entirely from the surrounding vineyard and Sean makes two ranges, the Brennan and the earlier-drinking B2. As everywhere in Central, pinot noir is the focus and Brennan’s are serious with dark fruit and hints of dried herbs. There are also some unusual wines like a light, peppery tempranillo (ideal with summer lunch), a luscious gewurztraminer, a light, early-picked pinot grigio and a richer pinot gris.
Our Picks
The pinots are a must-try and sometimes there are several vintages to compare. Don’t miss the gewurztraminer either.
Plus
Picnic in the courtyard (bring your own or buy a platter) and play petanque; there’s a kids’ play area too.
