Fat Pig Vineyard & Byrne Wine

Setting
This place oozes rustic, down-to-earth country charm. The cellar door, a round tin shed, offers wines from the Fat Pig and Byrne Wine ranges in a most laidback setting. This former kiwifruit orchard is home to chardonnay, pinot gris, syrah and sauvignon blanc vines, and people-friendly animals including a pig named Jenny Craig.

Things to know
Fat Pig also sells other wines from the region, plus local artisan produce and Mahoe cheeses are available to purchase in summer.

Our picks
The Fat Pig sauvignon Blanc is a rarity in that it’s made from Northland-grown grapes – it’s succulent and more easy-going than cooler climate renditions. The Byrne Viognier is a powerful example of the varietal, with lots of rich fruit flavours.
