Setting
Just 20 minutes out of Christchurch and 6km from Rolleston, chances are Georgie the “handy huntaway” will greet you at the gate and bound along beside the car until you reach the two sheds James Shand built to house his small winery, tasting room and classic car collection.
Things To Know
You’ll be entertained with a story or seven by Shand who, despite being reasonably new to the local wine scene, has a wealth of family history in the region. Self-proclaimed car nuts James and his partner Mary Jamieson named their block of riesling, chardonnay and pinot noir after the classic “straight 8” engine and they have a 1935 Light Sports Railton on site for any fellow car buffs to admire.
Our Picks
Try Gased, a unique sparkling riesling, and the rosé, which is crafted from cabernet franc.
