Setting
You know you are getting close to the Yealands cellar door when you start driving past beautifully landscaped vineyards. Wetlands, hundreds of trees and native plantings line the road, leading towards the stunning modern winery at Seaview. The cellar door is large and rustic, and well laid out for visitors.
Things To Know
This is the largest privately owned vineyard in New Zealand. The winery was the first in the world to be accredited CarboNZeroCERT™ from inception, and the company continues to win sustainability awards, both domestically and internationally.
Our Pick
Try the sauvignon blanc to taste the difference between an Awatere sauvignon blanc and those coming from the Wairau.
Plus
Drive through the vineyard and stop off in one of the picnic spots in the wetlands. Listen out for the classical music emanating from the towers – it apparently encourages the hens that roam the vines to lay larger eggs.
