Alpha Domus

Setting
The informal, welcoming tasting room is at the heart of this boutique winery, so you’re able to savour the wines on offer while witnessing the hubbub around the tanks and barrels. It’s great fun, yet peace and quiet are just a few steps away in the sheltered, leafy courtyard where you can relax and take turns petting miniature schnauzer Alfie.

Things to know
Alpha Domus was established by Dutch couple Anthonius (Ton) and Leonarda (Lea) Ham and their three sons in 1990. Together with winemaker Kate Galloway, they’ve forged a reputation for crafting internationally renowned Bordeaux-style reds, syrah and chardonnay, all estate-grown.

Our picks
The Barnstormer Syrah is peppery perfection and, for whites with attitude, try The Wingwalker Viognier and AD Semillon.

Plus
You’ll often see colourful vintage aircraft in the skies above the vineyard, as it’s adjacent to the historic Bridge Pa airfield. In the early 19th century, pilots were trained there in a Tiger Moth biplane, inspiring the image that graces each Alpha Domus bottle.
