Coney Wines

Setting
Zoom down Dry River Rd and you can’t miss the huge concrete gateway and distinctive cellar door sign featuring a golden treble clef. This purpose-built winery and cellar door building owned by Tim and Margaret Coney is a seriously popular local spot.

Things To Know
When Tim and Margaret Coney purchased 16 acres of bare land south of Martinborough, people from Tim’s rock ’n’ roll past thought they were nuts. While he’s no longer performing in bands, Tim does manage to groove to 1970s music while he works in the vineyard, makes the wines with daughter Lisa and of course charms the public in the cellar door. Speaking of music, don’t be alarmed if you hear Tim launch into song while you’re tasting or lunching – the tunes are free.

Our Picks
The Pizzicato Pinot, Ramblin’ Rosé and Ritz Riesling have harmonious names and loads of fans.

Trio Cafe
Tim’s wife, Margaret, is the creative force in the kitchen. Her Malaysian seafood laksa is sensational and the pumpkin ravioli is delicious.
