Terrace Edge Vineyard & Olive Grove

Setting
This unique property overlooks the Waipara River. You’ll be struck by the variety of colourful wildflowers growing between the vines. As well as looking pretty, these plants are doing the good work of harbouring beneficial species and reducing unwanted pests.

Things to know
Jill Chapman and her husband Bruce were taken by the idea of a life in wine after holidaying in Marlborough. They heard about a block of land up for sale in Waipara a couple of days into their 1999 camping trip and the deal was done. Thei
teenage son Peter decided to study viticulture after leaving school and now he’s the winemaker, with a swag of awards under his belt. In addition to growing pinot noir, pinot gris and riesling, Terrace Edge also boasts a syrah vineyard at a 45-degree angle – one of the steepest in the country. The grapes are picked by hand by harvesters who scoot down the slope on their backsides.

Our pick
The Terrace Edge Liquid Geography Riesling is luxuriously sweet and concentrated.

Plus
They have over 2000 olive trees on the property so sample the olive products as well as the wines.
