Askerne Reserve Hawke’s Bay Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Malbec

The Askerne vineyard was once an asparagus farm. Is growing quality wine grapes a better use of the land? Of course it is. This is a slightly herbal variation on the merlot/Bordeaux varieties theme, but red berry and blackcurrant varietal themes dominate. Dusty oak seasons it skilfully, the mid-palate is soft and friendly, tannins in balance.
