Decibel Wines Testify by Daniel Brennan Red 2018 (Hawke’s Bay)
Here, malbec makes its presence known as 80% of the blend, with merlot comprising the remaining 20%. As it happens, all the fruit came from a single organically grown vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels. There is a lot going on here, but in a highly unevolved state. Cedary oak, chewy tannins and masses of fruit promise to come together in the mid-term, but this one needs a few years in a cellar before it shows its charm.
