Jim Barry The McRae Wood Shiraz 2012
McRae Wood reds were once notable for the mintiness that sometimes marks Clare Valley shiraz, but things have changed. The 2012 is still a savoury wine, complex aromas hinting at dark fruits, aniseed, spice and smoky smallgoods, before a plush, not too heavy mouthful, with slightly raisiny and spicy flavours ahead of lots of tight tannins. Needs a char-grilled rump steak.
