Stonecroft Gimblett Gravels Reserve Syrah 2018 (Hawke’s Bay)
The oldest surviving row of syrah in New Zealand is here at Stonecroft, the remnants of those vines rescued by Alan Limmer in the 1980s. Today, Dermot McCollum and Andria Monin, current owners of Stonecroft, continue to nurture these original vines, now organically certified. Their Reserve Syrah is a top wine and includes fruit from these original vines. A low-sulphur wine, it is very complex and savoury with vibrantly rich mulberry leaf and fruit-spice notes, swathed in sweet oak to coat the chewy, layered and long, salty palate.
