Torbreck Woodcutter’s Shiraz 2019 (Barossa)
The fruit in Woodcutters, a blend of up-and- coming vineyards across the Barossa, is rather different from the very old-vine material that forms the core of Torbreck’s other shiraz wines. No new oak is present here, only well-seasoned large-format French oak. Smooth and juicy, the rich fruit opens up with air to reveal innate savoury complexity and earthy spice. Not the concentrated, palate-staining blockbuster that many associate with the Barossa, this is a remarkably modern take for an old-school region. (E)
